Vent - Calzona.

GREY'S ANATOMY - CALZONA: 

Okay. I need to get this off my chest before the 10^th season premieres. So. To start, I love Callie. I LOVE her. I watch the Callie Torres tag on Tumblr like a hawk. It is a problem. I also love Arizona AND I love them together (Calzona).

And for those of you are wondering who these randoms are or would like a re-cap, here is a present for you: Callie was incredibly sad because Erica (her sort of not really maybe kind of girlfriend) left her in the hospital parking lot so she went into the bathroom of Joes and was having somewhat of a sob. Nek minnit Arizona comes in and gives her the sweetest pep talk (I just… my heart) and kisses her. So they start going out. Things are good but then after a while Callie finds out Arizona NEVER wants kids ‘not in her life or her house or her womb’. This completely derails their relationship and they broke up but then this CRAZY gunman enters the hospital and starts shooting people up (Derek, my sweet bb) and Arizona realises she can’t live without Callie and ‘their ten kids’.

Right. Moving on. So all is good again. NEK MINNIT. Arizona wins this crazy prestigious Carter Madison grant WHICH REQUIRES HER TO MOVE TO AFRICA (seriously. Can you believe it?) and Callie decides to go with her. BUT. As is completely understandable, she was a bit upset. I MEAN HOW WOULD YOU FEEL? HAVING TO MOVE TO AFRICA BECAUSE YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER WON’T CONSIDER TURNING IT DOWN. And this showed. So Arizona got all butthurt and left Callie in the MIDDLE OF THE AIRPORT.

Right. How awful. I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE SHE DID THAT. UGHHHH. Moving on. Callie was obviously distraught. I mean, the girl has been through a lot of heartbreak. First, her husband cheated on her. Then, her sort of not really maybe kind of girlfriend left her in a parking lot AND NOW THE PERSON SHE THOUGHT SHE WOULD SPEND THE REST OF HER LIFE WITH ABANDONED HER IN THE MIDDLE OF AN AIRPORT. So she goes out with her friends. Gets a little drunk. Sleeps with Mark., her best friend.

NEK MINNIT.

Arizona comes back. Begs for Callie’s forgiveness. Callie tells her she’s pregnant with Mark’s baby.  This is already a massive deal but you need to understand that Arizona never really liked Mark because he and Callie were kind of a think back in the day. To add to this, Arizona never had any qualms at about letting Callie know she disliked the fact that Callie is bisexual and not a full-ledged lesbian.  (WHICH IS OFFENSIVE, CAN I JUST SAY). Thus, Callie sleeping with a man severely damaged her ego.

MOVING ON.

They get back together. All is good. Decide to raise the baby (to be named Sofia) together (Mark, Callie and Arizona) and all is great again.

NEK MINNIT

Arizona and a very pregnant Callie get into a car accident because Arizona proposed to her AND DIDN’T WATCH THE ROAD (UGHHHHHHHHH). Callie and the baby almost die. But they don’t. Which is very, very good.

All is good.  Sofia’s growing up. All the co-parenting is working out for everyone. Calzona is stronger than ever.

NEK MINNIT.

Arizona is in a plane crash. With Mark and a lot of other characters. (This episode actually broke my heart and I’m still not over it). So when they get back, Arizona’s leg is severely damaged. Mark dies. (STILL NOT OVER HIS DEATH). Despite Callie’s best efforts (she’s an orthopaedic surgeon) and the fact that she promised Arizona she wouldn’t have to amputate, she did. ONLY BECAUSE ARIZONA WAS CODING AND THE INFECTION WOULD HAVE TAKEN OVER HER BODY AND SHE WOULD HAVE DIED. SO CALLIE DECIDED TO CUT OFF HER LEG TO SAVE HER WIFE’S LIFE. BECAUSE AN ARIZONA MINUS A LEG IS BETTER THAN NO ARIZONA.

Okay. So post-surgery, Arizona pretty much is the biggest bitch to Callie. YOU WOULDN’T EVEN BELIEVE HOW HORRIBLE SHE WAS. (Which. I admit. Is kind of understandable but still. SHE WOULD HAVE DIED OTHERWISE. SHE WOULD NEVER HAVE SEEN CALLIE OR SOFIA AGAIN. AND I JUST.. HOW DID SHE NOT UNDERSTAND THAT?)

Anyway. After months of taking all this crapola from Arizona, things finally start getting better. All is good. They work through their issues. Sofia is happy. Callie is happy. Arizona is happy… OR SO WE THOUGHT.

NEK MINNIT. ARIZONA SLEEPS WITH SOME RANDOM DOCTOR SHE KNEW FOR ALL OF THREE DAYS WHEN IT TOOK HER MONTHS TO LET HER OWN WIFE BE REMOTELY INTIMATE WITH HER AFTER THE PLANE CRASH.

AND THEN. WAIT FOR IT. WAIT FOR IT.

WHEN CALLIE FINDS OUT, ARIZONA HAS THE NERVE TO PRETTY MUCH BLAME CALLIE. ARIZONA YELLS AT HER AND TELLS CALLIE THAT SHE DIDN’T LOSE ANYTHING (even though Callie’s BEST FRIEND AND SOFIA’S FATHER DIED AND ARIZONA ALMOST DIED AS WELL) AND THEN. WAIT FOR IT. CALLIE REPLIES WITH… ‘Apparently I lost you’. (I AM STILL NOT OVER THIS AND MY HEART BREAKS EVERY TIME).

Can I just say, how is Arizona not begging for Callie’s forgiveness? Pretty sure I would be on the floor crying, begging and just grovelling. THE GUILT WOULD EAT ME ALIVE. And yeah, Arizona is probably still pissed at Callie for cutting off her leg when she promised otherwise but gurl, be real.

HOW NAIVE IS SHE TO BELIEVE CALLIE WHEN SHE PROMISED SHE WOULDN’T CUT IT OFF IN THE FIRST PLACE. Like yeah, she’s your wife and you trusted her ‘more than anybody’. But Arizona’s a surgeon too. As if she wouldn’t have her doubts. AND WHAT DID SHE EXPECT CALLIE TO SAY WHEN SHE MADE THAT PROMISE? ‘Sorry. You’re having a breakdown right in front of me but I can’t promise you you’ll keep your leg. Stop crying. K thanks’. 

LITERALLY THE WORST SITUATION POSSIBLE.

And I don’t care what anyone else posts on Tumblr about how there should be no ‘team Callie’ or ‘team Arizona’ but we should all just be ‘team Calzona’. EXCUSE ME SNAPS FINGERS I CAN BE ON WHOSEVER TEAM I WANT TO BE. And I have to say, I’m siding with Callie on this one. I understand Arizona has PTSD and CLEARLY LOST HER DAMN MIND but it doesn’t make what she did right. AND IT CERTAINLY DOESN’T MAKE WHAT SHE’S DONE IN THE PAST RIGHT EITHER. How many times has she broken Callie’s heart? It’s AWFUL. And judging by the sneak peek, Callie is NOT standing for it which I am so glad for because she is a BAMF (as evidenced by the below gif) and Arizona deserves to get her ass handed to her (still though, my poor bb I’m so sorry you lost your leg and had to go through that).

Review - Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Law and Order: Special Victim’s Unit, commonly referred to as SVU, is a hard-hitting television series that stems from the original Law & Order. It’s an expose of the seedy underbelly of New York City and the crime that occurs. A myriad of the scripts and subsequent episodes are based on real felonies and victim experiences.

“In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victim’s Unit. These are their stories.”

This is the opening narration to every episode, providing us with information regarding what the show embodies. SVU focuses on sex crimes and crimes committed against children as the victims of these shocking offenses are considered ‘special victims’, thus the name. At the end of most episodes there are courthouse scenes to inform the audience of the outcome. However, at times the audience is left with a cliff-hanger, not knowing the verdict decided by the jury. While there are differences between the Australian and the American criminal justice system, I feel that knowing the basics to both and the differences between them is important. For example, while it is not possible to ‘plead the fifth’ to avoid self-incrimination and the incrimination of others in Australia, our equivalent with the same principal is enacted through various Australian state and federal legislations.

Each episode depicts a different victim. Their stories are heart wrenching and their ordeals are stomach churning. The detectives have to deal with the depravity they see every day to be able to provide the victims of these crimes with justice.

Olivia Benson is a headstrong detective who goes to amazing lengths to catch the murderers, rapists and paedophiles she deals with each day. Being the product of her mother’s rape, she is very passionate about her job and finding justice for the victim. Mariska Hargitay portrays Olivia Benson beautifully and has won numerous Emmy Awards playing this tole. Chris Meloni played Elliot Stabler, husband, best friends and father of five, skilfully for 12 seasons before leaving the show. Diane Neal and Stephanie March were the District Attorneys but have since also left the show. However, long-standing characters, in addition to Olivia, include Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T), Captain Cragen (Dann Florek) and John Munch (Richard Belzer). They are set to return in the 15^th season premiere this September. Since the departure of Chris Meloni, full time characters Amanda Rollins and Nick Amara have been added.

In my opinion, while I was saddened by Chris leaving, the addition of these two characters has allowed a new facet of the show to be seen by the audience, creating a fresher atmosphere. They have also allowed for the writers to create backgrounds for these two characters that have not already been dealt with repeatedly over the 12 seasons such as Elliot’s fear of any crimes being committed against his children.

To conclude, Law & Order: SVU is an outstanding show with an excellent cast. The storyline and plots are terrific and very emotional. This show initially took the world by storm and throughout the years, its popularity has remained steady as evidenced by its impressive 15^th seasons, a feat not easily achieved by other long time series. I cannot wait for the premiere of this season as the finale of the 14^th left us with what can only be described as a heart-stopping cliff-hanger. I would definitely recommend this show to anyone who’s interested in procedural dramas and crime shows.

Kick- Ass Females

Sinia's Choice: Betty from Ugly Betty.

This is my favourite picture. Ever.

You probably think I'm nuts for choosing Betty as a 'kick-ass female' but honestly, have you watched Ugly Betty?! I mean she is anything but fearless and not to mention an amazing example to all females. The predominate idea behind her character is that she is "ugly" unattractive, aesthetically unpleasing but within a couple of minutes one can clearly see her true beauty.

To me the show displays the basic idea that looks are not everything, they may cause you to suffer in certain dilemmas, but at the end of the day where there's a will there's a way (wow, didn't even know I was this deep).
The show definitely portrays Betty in situations where her looks are mocked, such as within the first episode where she is humiliated by being asked to wear a leather - spandex- fishnet outfit clearly ment for a standard model (I mean honestly, very few people can pull of leather spandex and fish nets. Scratch that, pretty much no one can).

Just not a good look man. 

So, yes let's continue shall we. To me Betty is the epitome of beauty. She is smart, successful, caring, loving, generous the list goes on and on. AND HONESTLY EVEN THOUGH SHE IS CONSIDERED "UGLY" SHE GETS SOME OF THE MOST AMAZING BOYFRIENDS EVER LIKE OH MY GOSH HENRY WOW.

But what makes her "kick-ass"? For one she puts up with all the shit from characters like Mark, Amanda, Wilhelmena (and just generally most of the staff at Mode). Actually, she does more than put up with their shit, she owns it and always proves them wrong.

She also always has her family at heart. They are her number one priority and to me that is so admirable. With simple things as making her nephew Justin feel comfortable in his own skin to saving her father from being deported she is truly just 100% a kick-ass female.

Even when she felt beautiful. Mode mocked her. But idgaf and neither should she. She's truly stunning! 

So now you know why I freaking love Ugly Betty. NO. Beautiful Betty. Mhmmmm.

We thought we’d start off by giving y’all a big ol’ WELCOME! to our humble blog. We’re three girls from Sydney who are completely obsessed with watching TV shows. Literally… every time we’re together we HAVE to discuss the latest episodes; reminisce about the classics that are no longer on air (“Friends” anybody?); and just fangirl about TV shows in general. So we thought since we’re obviously very opinionated, and clearly,… *coughs* clearly all that is refined and cultured, why not start a blog to get everyone else involved in our epic discussions?! Cause honestly people, you know when you’re watching an episode and you just… *whimpers* *sobs* …. you just start getting these… these *hiccups* feeeeeeeels?! Design & Layout

This is a rough design of what we would like our blog layout to be like. Our design was based of minimalistic features to ensure easy to read and access posts. Our colours revolve around a black and white colour scheme, with hints of pastels blues and pinks, making it easy and pleasing on the eye. The tabs are placed directly under the header to ensure clear categorisation of topics and easy access to a variety of different post types.

Topic
Our blog topic is revolved around our shared love for a myriad of television programs. It is a space where will post opinionated reviews, rants and all things related to tv show paraphernalia.

• Under the review tab you will find reviews of current and past tv shows such as Sleepy Hollow, Suits, Law & Order: SVU, Merlin, Game of Thrones, Ugly Betty, Friends (basically the list goes on).
• Under the Kick- Ass Females tabs you will find posts on strong, female characters from various tv shows and what we think makes them such admirable characters.
• Under the Ships tab you will find a collection of our favourite 'ships' (for a definition see tab).
•  Under the Vent tab you will find a compilation of intense rants on our dilemmas and issues with various tv shows *cough* *cough* the gossip girl ending *cough*
• Under the Miscellaneous tab you will find an assortment of random posts such as posts about classic tv shows and anything else our heart desires!
